JUMO is seeking a versatile and innovative Data Scientist to join its remote-first team in South Africa. This role offers exposure to multiple facets of the business and a direct impact on portfolio performance. The successful candidate will collaborate across departments to understand behavioural and financial data, enhance predictive models, and explore opportunities for portfolio growth, stability, and revenue. You’ll be instrumental in designing systems, automating processes, and delivering insights that shape client experience and strategic decision-making. The position supports flexible work arrangements, with optional access to co-working spaces in Cape Town.

Responsibilities

• Analyse and transform financial and behavioural data into actionable features and dimensions
• Automate processes and contribute to team tooling using coding skills
• Design and develop models for forecasting, simulation, strategy testing, and client experience optimisation
• Interpret stakeholder requirements and align deliverables to expectations
• Derive and communicate insights to analysts, portfolio managers, and partners
• Stay current with emerging technologies and contribute to continuous improvement

Qualifications

• A bachelor's degree with a strong quantitative component such as Economics, Physics, Engineering, or Software Engineering
• Three to five years of experience in a similar role within Finance and Technology
• Proficiency in SQL and Python for data wrangling and automation
• Strong interest in software development and experience with practices like git and CI/CD
• Ability to simplify complex problems and communicate effectively
• Creative mindset with a passion for innovation and challenging tasks
